Prudent Pruning Photo Galleries

This NW facing garden offered the challenge of varying degrees of sun and shade throughout the day. Consistently moist soil complicated the issue. The solution was to work with these “micro-climates” with everything from roses to ferns for a beautiful, ever-changing wall of color.
The front entry was made to feel warm and welcoming in all seasons.
The SW side was in need of color. Perennials interspersed with ornamental conifers and deciduous shrubs provide continuous interest year round.

The first step in these gardens was to remove three layers of weed barrier and three layers of gravel.
A new addition provided the opportunity for some color.
Our client wished to expand her already lovely garden to offer more curb appeal.
When mature enough in size the boxwoods will be pruned in formal rectangular hedges. The soft formality will continue in this section of the garden with a lower boxwood hedge as they mature.
The soft formality continues to the back of the house but with the introduction of a little more color. This bed is edged with sedums versus the boxwoods.
The Secret Children's garden is enclosed with "lollypop" trees and the pagoda dogwood offers a perfect hiding spot for little ones at play.

This project began with the removal of stone from the existing beds. The beds were then widened and built up with a compost added top soil. The goal was to have a prairie garden that graduated into a cottage garden. At the entry we drastically changed the feel to an ornamental conifer bed. Angelina sedum was used as a ground cover which will eventually fill the bed.
